Artà - Mallorca

Artà

Artà is a charming municipality in the north-east of the Spanish island of Mallorca. It is located about 60 kilometres from the capital Palma de Mallorca and is known for its rich history, stunning nature and cultural diversity.

The old town of Artà is a real jewel, surrounded by a well-preserved medieval city wall. The narrow streets lead to historic buildings, including the imposing basilica of Sant Salvador. From the top of the hill on which the basilica is perched, there is an impressive panoramic view of the town and the surrounding countryside.

In addition to the old town, there are many other interesting sights in Artà. The archaeological site of Ses Païsses is an impressive example of a prehistoric settlement from the Talayotic culture. It offers insights into early life on Mallorca.

The coast of Artà is characterised by rocky cliffs, idyllic bays and picturesque beaches. Cala Mesquida is one of the most famous beaches in the area and offers fine sand and crystal clear waters. The Parc Natural de Llevant stretches along the coast of Artà and is a true paradise for nature lovers. Here you can go hiking, discover rare plant and animal species and enjoy the unspoilt beauty of the Mediterranean landscape.

Artà also has a vibrant art scene with many galleries and craft shops. Every Tuesday there is a popular weekly market selling local produce, handicrafts and souvenirs.

Culinary-wise, Artà offers a variety of restaurants serving traditional Mallorcan cuisine as well as international dishes. The local specialities, such as sobrassada (a spicy Mallorcan sausage) and ensaimada (a sweet pastry), are a must-try.

Artà is also known for its cultural events. The Sant Antoni Festival in January is a traditional celebration with horse parades and fire festivals. In summer, the Sant Salvador festival takes place, with music, dance and breathtaking fireworks to delight visitors.

Artà is a wonderful destination for those who want to experience the beauty of nature, the historical atmosphere and the authentic culture of Mallorca.
